What is sustainable cashmere ?
Every single phase of the careful creation process of high-quality cashmere products at Stillsegler takes into account the sensitive animals, the environment, efficient processing, and ultimately the longest possible service life.
Unique natural product The herds of Ladakh cashmere goats prefer to live on the steepest slopes in the icy mountains of Inner Mongolia. Their thick, fluffy undercoat protects them from winter cold and icy storms. This undercoat consists of very long, fine strands of the purest white cashmere, which is known as "White for White" cashmere. Stillsegler only uses "White for White". This way, it can be guaranteed that every item of clothing produced by Stillsegler is of the highest possible quality.
The animals as friends and family members Each cashmere goat is combed by hand by the shepherds. During this process, particular attention is paid to the welfare of the goats. Only 50 grams of this high-quality animal hair is combed out by hand per goat per year. This means that the thick undercoat of the Ladakh goats grows back sustainably for many years.
Careful selection After careful combing, the long, delicate animal hair is sorted and prepared for the next production phase. The combed cashmere is washed and completely freed of dirt and grease. The thicker hair is then removed through a second mechanical combing process. This step ensures that only the purest and softest cashmere is used.
The purity of the colors Stillsegler cashmere is dyed before it is spun into yarn. This dyeing process treats the fibers as gently as possible to preserve their softness.
social component Environmentally friendly management in the Kashmir region contributes significantly to the preservation of traditional structures and offers additional employment opportunities for the local population, especially for women.

Trustful partnership Stillsegler partners are fighting against overgrazing in the Mongolian steppes by providing their goats with alternative sources of food, such as stable feeding in winter. Rotational grazing in summer promotes the regeneration of nature, increases biodiversity and creates sustainable, continuous sources of food for the goats.
