№7 Ebensee

The “Glöcklerlauf” in Ebensee - even if it doesn't quite fit the season, it seems important to point out a unique and extremely atmospheric ritual in this region. For around 160 years, the Glöcklerlauf has been one of the most beautiful traditional events in the Salzkammergut. Ebensee is the cradle and origin of this tradition. Starting from Ebensee, the tradition spread throughout the entire Salzkammergut. The purpose of the Glöcklerlauf is to gain the salvation and blessing of the good spirits and to drive away the evil spirits. This takes place every year on January 5th, the eve of Epiphany and the last Rauhnacht ("feiste Rauhnacht Perchta").
In summer, a hike around the Offensee is highly recommended. The crystal-clear, turquoise water reflects the bizarre shapes of the nearby mountains and invites you to swim in the numerous bathing areas. In late autumn, when the last bathers have already left the lake, the lake sometimes shows itself in its most beautiful, and above all quiet, splendor. The well-paved circular path is particularly family-friendly because it can also be used with a stroller. The Mostschänke in Ebensee is recommended as an appropriate stop after an impressive walk around the lake.
