Visit to the "Fischerei Kainisch" – the Ausseerland is known for its beautiful landscape and the lakes embedded in the mountain range, the abundance of salt and, last but not least, the Ausseer char. The importance of this fish can be traced back centuries. Even in the days of the emperors, it was practically on everyone's lips at the courts of the nobility. Even then, professional fishermen were breeding fry, as the young fish are called in technical terms, in order to counteract overfishing of the local lakes.
Today, fish farms cultivate char and trout in the fresh, clean spring water of Lake Grundlsee. Whether you eat them on site or take them away, they are always delicious. Another recommendation is “Schloss Trautenfels”.
It stands as a striking landmark of the middle Enns Valley on a rocky outcrop at the foot of the Grimming. As a multifaceted art and cultural site, the castle represents the history, culture and nature of the area. A 30-meter-high observation tower also offers a breathtaking view of the valley.
And while you're on the way, we recommend visiting the nearby car-free town of Pürgg. A picturesque village in the middle of the Enns Valley on the east side of the mighty Grimming.
