“Hike along the Scythe Trail through the former largest scythe factory of the Danube Monarchy” – the industrial monument and open-air museum Sensenschmiede impressively shows the transition from handicraft to industrial production and the creation of the largest scythe factory in the Danube Monarchy with all the effects this had on the entire region. The "Geyerhammer", in operation until 1987, is one of the most interesting excursion destinations and cultural sites in the Almtal.
In a 400-year-old forge, equipped with three original water-powered broad hammers and well-preserved forges, visitors experience the tough working conditions and working methods of days gone by. The signposted scythe path, approximately 2.4 km long, leads through an ensemble of production facilities, residential buildings and the mansions of the "black counts".
Another highlight of an entertaining excursion could be an easy hike (about an hour's walk) to the nearby Scharnstein castle ruins (entrance is free).
