№11 Grundlsee

"Over the Grundlsee to the Toplitzsee" - a trip to the Ausseerland region should not be missed by a visit to the historic, mysterious Toplitzsee. We therefore recommend a hike from Gundlsee/Gößl to Toplitzsee combined with a Plätten trip to the source of the Traun and a later stop at the Fischerhütte and/or Seehotel Grundlsee. Both restaurants are known for their varied, light, regional cuisine with fish specialties from local waters.
Our short hike begins at the end of the Grundlsee at the car park in Gößl. If you have time, you also have the wonderful opportunity to take a short boat trip from Grundlsee to the starting point at the end of the lake in Gössl. We now hike along the road that is closed to general traffic, past the small church and the vertical walls of the Gößlerwand. The path is particularly pleasant in summer because it leads through the cool forest. After just under half an hour we are standing in front of the legendary Toplitzsee. Many treasures are said to have been sunk here during the Second World War, but they have not been found to this day. The lake is over 100 meters deep and the interesting thing is that there is salt water in its depths.
With the Plätten (typical boats in the region) placed there, we go past a beautiful waterfall to the end of the Toplitzsee. From there, a short hiking trail (10 minutes) takes us next to a gorge carved out of the rock to the timber raft where we reach the Kammersee. Below the Elm mountain, the spring comes out of a rock face. This then flows into the Kammersee on the south bank of the face. This is the source of the Traun.
After our boat trip to the source of the Traun, we can treat ourselves to delicious fish dishes at the fisherman's hut right on Lake Toplitz next to the boat dock. The inn can only be reached on foot from the parking lots on Lake Grundlsee.
Whether you sit in the cozy dining room or in the sunny garden, you can feel the legendary past here. Fresh char and regional home cooking are the specialties of the house.
Maybe stop off for dessert at the Seehotel Grundlsee on the way home. The view from the beautiful terrace makes for a relaxing end to the day on and in Grundlsee.
